Out East Maple Farm makes and distributes New Hampshire maple syrup out of Lancaster, New Hampshire. Out East Maple Farm was established in 2006, by two young men, Mitchell Forbes and Eric McVetty and with the help of the Forbes Farm. Their first year, the boys set up their orchard and placed 400 taps along the maple trees. Since there was no sugarhouse built, Mitchell and Eric trucked the sap to the town of Dalton to boil into syrup at McVetty's Sugarhouse. Here during the short sugaring season, they made about 36 gallons of maple syrup.
The second year of the small production, starting in the middle of December, the crew at Forbes Farm began to build the sugarhouse for Out East Maple Farm. The sugarhouse is located on Grange Road at the site of the Forbes Farm dairy facility. In January the boys began working on their orchard for the upcoming season. Since there were more maple trees to be tapped, they started expanding their lines allowing access to more trees. By the time sap was ready to run, the sugarhouse was finished and about 750 taps were placed in the maple trees. The farm invested in a vacuum pump to be sure to gather the sap to its fullest potential. At the end of the season Out East Maple Farm made over 100 gallons of maple syrup, something for the family to be proud of.
Although, this is not the first time the Forbes or McVetty's family has seen a sugaring operation. The McVetty's in Dalton have been sugaring for many years from their orchard also located in Dalton. In the early 1950's, Allan Forbes Sr. the grandfather to Mitchell, began to start up the sugaring operation that his father had many years back. With the help of his two brothers, Paul and Dick Forbes, Allan was able to begin making maple syrup. The orchard that Out East Maple Farm is established from is the same orchard that Allan used in the 50's. Through the 70's, Allan's sons Allan Jr. and Scott kept sugaring off and on until it died off and then was started up again in 2006. Here in 2024 Allan Sr., Allan Jr., and Scott are a tremendous help in making Out East Maple Farm a successful operation.
